Unlock PDF
Remove a known password, or the owner restrictions that block printing and copying, from a PDF you have the right to modify. Decryption happens in this tab and the result is saved without encryption. Files that never prompt for a password can still carry restrictions — the same confirmation removes them.
How it works
- 1
Open the PDF
If it asks for a password, enter it once — encrypted files are decrypted in memory.
- 2
Confirm you may modify it
Tick the checkbox. The unlock button stays disabled until you do.
- 3
Save the clean copy
The output keeps the content but has no password or restrictions.
Your privacy is the point
This tool runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly and Canvas. Your file is never uploaded to a server, never stored and never seen by anyone but you.
Frequently asked questions
I do not know the password. Can this still work?+
No. This tool does not guess or bypass passwords; it decrypts with the password you supply. Without it the file stays locked.
The PDF never asked for a password. Why?+
It is probably encrypted with an empty user password, so viewers open it straight away while still applying owner restrictions such as no printing or copying. Those are exactly what this tool removes.
Does unlocking change the content?+
No. Pages, links, form fields and annotations are preserved; only the encryption dictionary and its permission flags are dropped. A few producers write metadata in a way that decryption resets, so check the title afterwards.
